YUMUMU - New Arrivals!

Less than a week away from Christmas, YUMUMU plays Santarina and brings three new pieces to our store (: (that's one of the things I really like about the label: new styles in between seasons! :D)

On the designer's most recent trip to London, she found exclusive fabrics that went into the making of these dresses! This little capsule collection also pays homage to craft in the use of handpainted and clever mix-and-matching of fabrics. Not only are they pretty to look at, the carefully-selected textured fabrics also make them so uniquely Yumumu. I'm sure you can see what I mean.. :D

Hand-painted Flare Dress

(the pink sun over the torso of the dress is handpainted! it always amazes me how the deliberate positioning of a certain part of the fabric can make or break a dress - in this case, it definitely adds a burst of life to the piece and the wearer! an excellent compromise if you're usually a monotone girl, not to mention how it is also very flattering on most figures heehee guess i just let slip that i tried it on too (;)

Drop Waist 2-Tone Dress

(i really like this piece - a modern take on the flapper!

gimme drop waist dresses, jazz, short bobs and liberalism ha-ha any day! :D :D )

Panelled Shift Dress

(not to gush, but i think for Yumumu fans, this piece is luxxxuryyy :D reminiscent of the 2d cut of dresses from the label's (first) Paperdoll collection!

with the bringing together of this, the harmonious mish mash of fabrics used here, alongside a zip(!) and asymmetry, we are privy to the ongoings and fashion preoccupations of the designer's mind ooooh! heehee.)

hullo again after a while!

there are several new arrivals here in the shop and over the next few days, we'll be making multiple posts so please do, do come back! (: (:

today, we bring you LESLI BERGGREN DESIGN, a contemporary jewellery label and their latest collection, La Luna!

the amethyst stones and flowy structures of the collection's earrings and necklaces do indeed suggest glittery moonlit nights spent dancing under the stars (teehee). designed by the company founder and designer, Lesli Berggren, the pieces reflect her own personal sense of style, grace and fun. on more practical terms though, sterling silver is used as the base metal, with the gold pieces being plated onto silver - people with sensitive skin, fret no more! :D best of all, they're light and make for easy-wearing, but are subjected to stringent quality checks as Lesli herself oversees the manufacturing process so that every piece turns out as envisioned (that does mean redoing designs-gone-wrong multiple times! ngarh!).

i'll leave you with pictures now (courtesy of my once-again recent discover of foto frame - yes late to discover again \: - haha at this rate, i'll probably be doing 1-app-advert per post haha!) but i suggest you come see and touch and tryyyy for yourselves!

i've been thinking about this for some time and turning it over in my head, and i'm really relishing saying it, so here goes..

i also had a little fun at the shop taking pictures of them with this iphone app called instagram. i'm super late to it and all you techies are probably rolling your eyes at me haha but it was good fun for a while turning my lousy photos into soooomewhat artistic ones heehee. i'm sorry, though, that the pictures are quite obviously not true to colour, so i took close-ups of the different styles' prints and stated their base colours, so at least you have a good/close enough idea of each piece!

inspired by urban transformation, this collection reveals a dynamic exchange between the industrial and the organic, to the point that their differences become indiscernable. our muse is modern and her pose is erect, but there is also a certain bohemian fluidity to the way she moves and navigates the streets.

We now have the much awaited new collection from Al & Alicia in store. :) The aptly named "Porcelain and Chinadolls" collection is inspired by the touching story of a struggling male ballet dancer who eventually achieved freedom and acknowledgement (Mao's Last Dancer). This collection focuses on the flow of movement, contrasting the strong and feminine designs, resulting in a subtle mixture of sensuality and grunge. Be prepared to find a full range of apparel, from knit hoodies, oversized tops to soft satin blouses and chiffon dresses (it really does resemble a dancer's wardrobe!).

luxury label, chooyilin's awareness-raising mission for the conservation of our environment continues! this time paying homage the humble pebble.. .. and you think, "the humble pebble?"

says assistant designer, kevin ong: "pebbles are very important in protecting beaches from the destruction of waves, in addition to being home to many species. the humble pebble isn't quite what we think it is."

and in this capsule collection, it is indeed a deviation (to say the least) from the everyday pebbles under our feet! as choo yilin herself puts it: the collection's aim is "to demonstrate that [pebbles] are beautiful in their own right, [being] crucial to the environment." this has been done through and with faceted gemstones of brilliant hues, weaved in solid bronze.

Hope your first week of August has been good so far. :)
We just received new pictures from Samantha Wills' newest collection, Portraits of Dusk, and would love to share them with you. What's so special about this new collection's lookbook is that it stars Chanel muse, Heidi Mount. She captivated the world in the Lagerfield-directed Chanel 2009 campaign and is now back in 2011 to transport us into a world of New York Mystery for Portraits of Dusk.

There will be lots of antique gold, rich navy crystals, delicate silver chains and tribal colour schemes which complement their aptly named 'portraits of dusk' collection. :) We can't wait for its arrival!

Anyhow, here are some pictures from the SW lookbook to share with you (to kill some waiting time :D)

if you've come by recently, you would've noticed that we've replaced most of CHOOYILIN's jade items with other pretty little things from their new collection!

chief designer Choo Yilin speaks of the new range as paying homage to the classic bezel set, the oldest method of setting gemstones in jewellery - "the designs of this range is incredibly simple; no embellishments of small sapphire accents, no complicated swirls or tiny pave stones. instead, there is only one focus - on the bezel-set gemstone."

the sun is shining in through our front window and while i'm really itching to be out in the sun, i'm happy to write you all about the new pieces we have in store from Choo Yilin's new range, the Tree Series (: a collection in bronze, sterling silver and gold vermeil woven with natural gemstones.

inspired by trees, and in line with the label's design philosophy of organic symmetry, "the pieces twist and writhe like the objects of their inspiration: leaves, roots, vines, bark and blossoms." there's also more to love in the textured details on the 18k rose gold plated bronze metals used, reminiscent of tree branches, in their celebration of the United Nations' (UN) Year of Forest Conservation.

when we first introduced the label, we told you it was a sustainable luxury label, and it is indeed living up to its name! - for every purchase made through them, Choo Yilin will sponsor the planting of a tree sapling through the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF) reforestation campaign.

Hi again!

Recently, we welcomed to our humble antipodean home

CHOO YILIN ARTISAN JEWELLERY

a sustainable luxury label (: In store, we have her Jade range of gemstone-topped rings, earrings, necklaces and bangles (more of that in a bit). I think what's really great about labels such as Yilin's is the amount of thought and heart that goes into each individual piece (which you'll see really soon!), as well as its motivation as a whole.

Through working with silversmiths of Thailand's Karen hill tribe, she hopes to raise awareness for such indigenous cultures, which in the face of modernity, run the risk of being forgotten in spite of its cultural richness. It is with these little efforts that the keeping alive of valuable cultures is made possible. What's more, with the use of reclaimed precious metals and sustainably-sourced gemstones (forget blood diamonds :D), one need not worry about harming the environment or groups of individuals even.

And so, I do think in its execution, it has successfully produced for us one aspect of life's imperfect beauty, as manifested in the untouched jade used in the range we're currently carrying. (Sorry I've gone on a while but it really makes me happy to know that not everything is solely about aesthetic beauty as is so often the case in the frivolity of shopping heh heh but girls just wanna have fun, right? haha.)

Don't want to be mistaken for another raver on the internet, but I've been really excited to see YUMUMU's new collection (remember the bunny dresses from chinese new year?), so I'm happy to say that their Fall collection is now available here at antipodean! The collection comprises of mostly monotone blacks, whites and navys, but it's all in the detail (: Designer, Lu Yilin has used a variety of fabric such cotton/elasthane and polyester to lend different feels to the garments. Keep scrolling to see what I mean!

Hi there!

We have got a new jewellery line in store (just in time for Christmas again!). Amado Gudek is the brainchild of Singaporean designer Elaine Tan. Having pursued her interest in fashion branding in London, she was much inspired by the city's art scene and thus translated its expressiveness and eccentricity into her new jewellery line. In fact, "Amado Gudek" is named after two of her best friends in London! :) Each jewellery piece is individually sculpted and cast by hand.
